Rio Ruiz: 3B, Bishop Amat HS (CA), 6'2", 195, L/R

This University of Southern California commit has a smooth swing and a line drive approach with plus raw power. His above average bat speed plays well, as he makes good contact out in front of his body. He has very good pitch recognition
and only swings at his pitches. He has a good weight transfer, but he can get long and coupled with the hitch in his front foot on his load, he sometimes has problems with swinging through hard inside fastballs.

Ruiz has an accurate and strong arm and he shows the ability to be an above average defender at third base. Speed is not a huge part of his game, but he has average speed for a corner guy, though will probably lose a tick or two as his frame fills out .A blood clot was removed from his right shoulder this spring, causing him to miss much of the season, hurting his draft stock. He would have probably gone in the 1st or compensation round, due to his high profile bat and prototypical defense at third, but he is now more likely a 2nd round pick.

Comparison: Eric Chavez
Projected Draft Position: 2nd Round
