Ty Hensley: RHP, Edmond Santa Fe HS (OK), 6'5", 225

This Ole Miss commit does not figure to set foot on campus next year, with two potential plus pitches and a 1st round projected draft position. The ball explodes out of Hensley’s hand, touching the mid 90s on his fastball, and he has very good command for a high school pitcher. His curveball is his calling, as it is a well above average hammer curve already and with a little more consistency in the strike zone, could develop into plus-plus pitch that consistently misses bats. He has a changeup, which is not very good at present and he does not throw it much, but at the next level if he wants to remain a starter and reach his full potential it will need to be at least average. This will come from simply throwing it more, as his shows some feel for it already.

Mechanically, he comes from an arm slot that is very close to directly over the top, although he does not tuck his glove and end in a good fielding position. These adjustments are simple, however, and will add more consistency to his offerings. He also does not get to a perfect balance point, although this has improved greatly in the last year. Hensley’s not as good from the stretch, where he tends to rush himself a little too much. He is a two way player and also used to play quarterback, but his future is on the mound as a potential number 2 starter. Even if his changeup does not develop as expected he could develop into a solid power arm out of the back end of a bullpen.
